The Rewards of Bible Study
In the book of Proverbs chapter 4:20-22 says, 20. My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
In other words, by studying God's Word, it is LIFE to those who find them and health to all their flesh. It also says in 2 Timothy 2:15 to "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
If we, as christians, do not want to be deceived, then we must know the Truth. We must have a gauge or ruler to go by to prove what is or is not Truth. Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life and no one goes to the Father except through him." So anyone teaching something other than, it is wrong.
In Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. This passage planly states that there is only one way to heaven and that is through Jesus. Any teaching that is contrary to this is WRONG. Let's look at Oprah for instance. She has her own on-line book club. She is promoting books by Eckart Tolle. He believes that it doesn't matter what you believe, so long as you believe it whole heartedly, you will still go to heaven. That there is more than one way to heaven.
It is so important to know The Bible, especially during the times we live in. Not only this, but we need to KNOW Jesus. And the only way to get to know someone, is to spend time with them.
If you are new to Bible studying, then start out slow. A great start would be the book of St. John, and then Romans. St. John because this is the love book. He speaks of God's love to us. Then Romans because we learn of our relationship to Christ, that we are the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus. 1 John also is another book on God's love.
Then you find Psalms. King David was "a man after God's own heart." Here is a king that committed adultery and planned a murder, and still he was "a man after God's own heart." You fill King David's love for God in Psalms. The times he was depressed and the times when he was elated.
The Bible is full of God's promises. We are to "Hide His word in our hearts so that we might not sin against Him." Once we get the revelation knowledge that Jesus is truly the son of the living God, That He died on a cross for our sins, then and only then will we truly understand the meaning of eternal life!!! It needs to be more than head knowledge, but heart knowledge as well.
